2 min readKathmandu (Team Newsbuddy): In Nepal monarchy ended after the murder of the prince. Now some right-wing parties want to reinstate the monarchy. But this is not their sole intention.
Earlier, there were kings and emperors in the whole world, there was monarchy. The king’s son became the king and the king ruled according to his personality. In history, there have been as many or more cruel kings as there have been good kings. By the 19th and 20th centuries, monarchy started to disappear from the world. After the French Revolution, people had found a better option of governance – democracy. Since the foundation of democracy is representation, accountability and civil rights, democracy replaced monarchy after movements in different countries. Although the system is a bit slow because of listening to, understanding and convincing different voices, but it is the most stable system among the existing systems of governance. But this stable system in a country can be implemented in many ways.
Hundreds of protesters demanding the return of monarchy clashed with the police in the capital Kathmandu. Dozens of protesters broke the barricades and entered the restricted area. Then the police took action. Lathis, water cannons and tear gas had to be fired. The fifth largest party in Nepal’s parliament is the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). This right-wing party that supports monarchy, had organized the protest. They marched in the capital with their cadres, raised slogans and appealed to end the republic and begin the return of monarchy. When the matter worsened and the police took action, the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane was accused of police action.
