Indore (Team Newsbuddy): The 4th edition of the three-day prestigious Dr. N. N. Jain National Moot Court Competition, organized by the Department of Law of Prestige Institute of Management and Research (PIMR), commenced today. The event was graced by David Holt, Mayor of Oklahoma City, USA and Dean, School of Law, Oklahoma City, Pushyamitra Bhargava, Mayor of Indore, Dr. Belldona, Dean of Meinders School of Business Oklahoma City University, Dipin Jain, Vice Chairman, Prestige Education Foundation, faculties, and law students and faculties from across India
In his inaugural address, Mayor Holt emphasized the importance of the rule of law in ensuring certainty, predictability, and fairness. He stated that the rule of law has enabled unprecedented progress in various fields, from global communication to space exploration. He stressed that the written word based on the rule of law is paramount in any system.
Law Students must have a social perspective: Indore Mayor
City Mayor Pushya Mitra Bhargav urged the law students to adopt a social perspective in addition to focusing on legal issues. He encouraged them to participate in the ‘Internship with the Mayor’ programme to gain insights into the intricacies of thousands of pending cases of the Indore municipal corporation in the District and High Courts. He highlighted that the National Moot Court Competition is a significant platform not only for becoming a good lawyer but also a great lawyer.
Education industry is more innovative than ever
Dr. Belldona, Dean of Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University, spoke about the transformative changes in the education industry. He emphasized the need for education to be relevant and skill-based, citing the skepticism surrounding master’s degrees in the US. He advocated for curriculum revisions every two years to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and encouraged students to develop an inquisitive mindset.
Moot Court competitions enhance the judicial system
Dipin Jain, Vice Chairman of the Prestige Education Foundation, stated that moot court competitions are a means of enhancing the judicial system. He explained that they provide a platform for students to engage with the real world beyond textbooks. He highlighted that the principles of advocacy and the quest for justice regularly transform the law, and moot court competitions carry forward that tradition.
International Moot Court Competition from next year
Dr. Raja Roy Chowdhury, Director of PIMR Department of Law, while welcoming the guests and participants from 54 law institutes across the country, emphasized that the national moot court competition focuses not only on research but also on teamwork, hard work, leadership, and a practical approach. He announced that the Padma Dr. N. N. Jain National Moot Court Competition will become international from next year, allowing law college teams from other countries to participate.
DOL PIMR, School of Law Oklahoma, USA ink pact
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the School of Law, Oklahoma City, and the PIMR Department of Law during the inaugural session of the Padma Dr. N. N. Jain National Moot Court Competition. The MoU aims to promote mutual academic collaboration in law education, exchange of law students and faculty, and research in the field of law education. The MoU was signed jointly by Dipin Jain, Vice Chairman of Prestige Education Foundation, and David Holt, Dean of the School of Law Oklahoma City and Mayor of Oklahoma City.
