1 min readDurg, (Team Newsbuddy). On the occasion of Ram Navami, Akshaya Tritiya, it is mostly seen at urban and rural level that child marriage is performed due to illiteracy and misconceptions. To completely ban the said child marriage in the district, a joint team of Women and Child Development Department, Police Department, Panchayat level Child Protection Committee, Child Line has been formed.
According to the information received from the District Program Officer of Women and Child Development Department, the Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006 prohibits the marriage of a boy below 21 years of age and a girl below 18 years of age. If a man below 21 years of age marries a girl below 18 years of age, he can be punished with rigorous imprisonment up to 02 years or fine which can be up to Rs 1 lakh or both. Any person who arranges, performs or helps in child marriage can be punished and any person who promotes or knowingly allows child marriage, or participates in it can also be punished. No woman can be given imprisonment.
