Two killed including terrorist commander Basit Dar in encounter
2 min readJammu Kashmir (Team Newsbuddy): An encounter took place between terrorists and security forces in Redwani area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir. Two terrorists were killed in this encounter. One of these terrorists was Basit Ahmed Dar, the top commander of TRF, a front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba. Basit Dar was an A category terrorist and was active since 2021. He was involved in more than 18 cases including attacks on security forces and minorities in Srinagar and South Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir VK Birdi said that he had a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. The work of removing debris from the spot is still going on. No one will be allowed to disturb the elections, peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir.
IGP Kashmir said that on Monday afternoon, the police received information about the presence of terrorists in the area. The police along with other security forces cordoned off the area. An intense encounter started between the terrorists and the security forces which lasted till noon. He said that two terrorists including Basit Dar, a top commander of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (TRF) organization of Redwani in Kulgam, were killed in the encounter.
He said that the operation ended this afternoon, but the search operation to remove the debris of explosives is still going on. Police sources said that the identity of the second terrorist killed is being ascertained.
A terrorist attack was carried out on Air Force vehicles in the Danna Shahsitar area of Surankote tehsil of Poonch district. Five airmen were injured in this attack. Vicky Pahad, one of the injured, was martyred.
Since the attack, a cordon has been put in place in the area of Surankote and Mendhar for 20 kilometers. The help of drones is also being taken. Security forces have launched a massive search operation. More than a thousand soldiers of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and SOG have taken charge in the area.
