Indore: Madhya Pradesh’s Vaidehi Shukla achieved double success in the Daily College Open Junior Ranking Tennis Tournament held in the city and won the trophy in the girls’ singles as well as doubles category. In the boys’ category, Trishir Dhawan of Madhya Pradesh won the trophy, while he missed out on getting double success with defeat in the doubles category.
In the competition held at Daly College, boys and girls players from all over the country presented their challenge. The prize distribution took place under the hospitality of MP Tennis Association President Anil Mahajan. During this, Daily College Vice Principal Tushar Bhardwaj, Indian Junior Davis Cup Team Coach Sajid Lodhi were also present. The program was conducted by Ayra Lodhi.
In the final of the boys’ singles category, Trishir Dhawan clashed with Shlok. Both the players had won many big matches and defeated strong opponents in their journey to the final. It was expected that the final match would be a close one. But when the final started, the match looked one-sided. Trishir adopted an aggressive strategy against Shlok from the very beginning. He served better while he kept the opponent player in trouble by playing shots on both sides of the court. In the end, he won the match by a margin of 6-2, 6-2. After this, Trishir along with his partner Veereshwar went to play the doubles final. Here they were up against Hitarth and Meeresh. The pair of Trishir and Veereshwar could not pose much challenge in the first set while they tried to make a comeback in the second set. But Hitarth and Meeresh won the trophy by winning 6-2, 6-4. With this defeat, Trishir missed out on winning the double title.
Girls’ final was one-sided:*
In the girls’ singles final, there was a clash between two international players Vaidehi Shukla and Anya Rathi. Both the players are very experienced after playing in many national and international level tournaments and a tough competition was expected. But Anya could not pose any special challenge to Vaidehi. Vaidehi won this match very easily by 6-0, 6-0. After this, Vaidehi, along with Anya, achieved double success by winning the trophy in the doubles category as well. In the girls’ doubles final, the pair of Vaidehi and Anya faced the pair of Suchita and Sharvi. Indore’s players Vaidehi and Anya showed great coordination and kept the opposing pair troubled throughout. One took charge at the baseline and the other at the net and foiled every attempt of the opposing pair. In the end, the pair of Vaidehi and Anya won this decisive match by 6-1, 6-1.
