Voters proudly displayed their inked fingers to the shopkeepers to enjoy this delightful breakfast. This initiative, spearheaded by the Shopkeepers Association of 56 Dukan, aimed to invigorate voter participation in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The bustling lanes witnessed an enthusiastic queue of voters relishing breakfast at various establishments within the 56 Dukan Market. As Phase-4 voting commenced in Indore, alongside seven other Lok Sabha constituencies including Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Khargone, and Khandwa, the electoral fervor was palpable. Voting commenced at 7 am and would continue until 6 pm, adhering to the schedule set by the Election Commission of India.
The President of the Merchant Association, representing the city’s renowned chaat-chowpatty hub, announced that voters casting their ballots between 7 and 9 am would be treated to complimentary poha and jalebi. Reflecting on the initiative, Shyamlal Sharma, a shop owner at 56 Dukan, expressed, “We provided free breakfast during the state assembly polls and served approximately 5,000-6,000 individuals. This time, our goal is to cater to around 11,000-12,000 voters.”
“While 56 Dukan offers ice cream to all voters, it’s not merely a giveaway but a gesture of gratitude towards our nation and Indore for what we have achieved,” remarked Kailash Rijhwani, an ice cream vendor. He further added, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who rose early to exercise their democratic right.”
