One Day Sensitization Workshop on Standardization’ held at NIT Raipur

‘One Day Sensitization Workshop on Standardization’ was inaugurated at National Institute of Technology Raipur on 13th May at the E-Hall of the institute. This workshop was jointly organized by National Institute of Technology Raipur and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The event was inaugurated by Shri Tapas Dasgupta, Chief General Manager, Bhilai Steel Plant as the Chief Guest. Director of the Institute, Prof. N. V. Ramana Rao was the Chief Convener in the event and Sumit Kumar, Head of BIS Raipur Branch Office was present as the guest of honour. Dean (R&C) of the institute, Prof. Prabhat Diwan, Dr. J. Anand Kumar, Associate Dean (R&C), Dr. Manwendra K. Tripathi, Associate Dean (R&C), BIS Activities Coordinator NIT Raipur Dr. R.K. Sahu, faculty members, staff and research scholars were present at the workshop.

At the beginning of the program, Mr. Sumit Kumar, BIS Raipur Head introduced various activities of BIS and said that BIS is the largest certification body for standards in our country. Talking about BIS, he said that standards are set for everything around us. He also said that BIS is the first organization which has been able to reach out to most of the gram panchayats across the Chhattisgarh state. BIS provides free training to its stakeholders, also BIS has created standards clubs in schools and colleges which organize standards related activities.

After this, the Director of the Institute welcomed all the guests and highlighted the importance of BIS and said that the standards play very important role in daily life. Prof. Rao expressed hope to achieve better goals with the collaboration of NIT Raipur and BIS and also inspired everyone to be aware about the standards.

Shri. Tapas Dasgupta expressed his happiness and felt honoured to be a part of the event. He told that BIS touches everyone’s life today very much like Steel Authority of India. He said that BIS is not only for standardization, but it is also for testing and certification. He advised participants to take maximum advantage of this workshop.

In this program, information about BIS and its functions was given through various interactive sessions, presentations, and other activities. Also, future possibilities regarding the signed MOU between NIT Raipur and BIS was also discussed.
