2 min read

Indore(Team Newsbuddy): Dev Soni, a student at the Prestige Institute of Management and Research (PIMR), Indore, has published a significant research paper titled “Impact of Social Media on Mental Health: A Case Study on PIMR Indore Students,” under the mentorship of Professor (Dr.) Nitin Girdharwal. Released on the eve of International Yoga Day, the paper examines both the positive and negative effects of social media usage among students, offering critical insights into its multifaceted impact on mental health.
The study highlights the positive impacts of social media, such as enhanced connectivity and communication among peers, access to educational resources, support communities, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Conversely, it also addresses the negative effects, including increased anxiety and depression linked to social media overuse, exposure to cyberbullying and online harassment, and disrupted sleep patterns. The research suggests implementing social media detox periods, encouraging face-to-face interactions and offline hobbies, and promoting digital literacy to foster responsible social media usage.
Dr. Girdharwal described the research as significant, noting that it touches the lives of students nationwide by providing actionable advice to mitigate the adverse effects of social media while harnessing its benefits. He emphasized that the publication’s timing, coinciding with World Yoga Day, underscores the importance of mental well-being and holistic health.

Dr. Davish Jain, Chairman of the Prestige Education Foundation, PIMR Group Director Dr. SS Bhakar, PIMR (UG campus) Director Col. (Dr.) Subramanian Raman Iyer and the entire PIMR faculty have lauded the efforts of the institute’s students in addressing such a pertinent issue that resonates with students across the country.
