Pastor Sushma Kumar became first woman bishop of Chhattisgarh Diocese

Raipur/Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): Pastor Sushma Kumar has been elected as the new Bishop of Chhattisgarh Diocese. The election of the new bishop was held at the Synod headquarters of the Church of North India in Delhi . The delegates of the Synod and Chhattisgarh Diocese selected her. Chhattisgarh Diocese has got a woman bishop and a Chhattisgarhi bishop for the first time. The new bishop has served in Bhatapara, Tilda and Mahasamund as a servant, deacon and pastor.

The holy consecration of the new bishop will take place in the chapel of 16 Pandit Pant Marg Synod headquarters in Delhi on June 25. His ministry was inaugurated at St. Paul’s Cathedral in the capital on June 29. Bishop Kumar has also been in many important committees including the Vice President of Chhattisgarh Diocese. She is originally a resident of Mahasamund. On this occasion, Chhattisgarh Diocese secretary Nitin Lawrence, treasurer Jaideep Robinson and other priests were present. Till now, Bishop SK Nanda was managing Chhattisgarh Diocese as the in-charge bishop. The process of bishop selection had started about one and a half months ago. The moderator of the Synod, the Most Right Reverend BK Nayak was the presiding officer.
