LS Speaker leads massive tree plantation drive in Indore
2 min readIndore(Team Newsbuddy) : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took part in the monumental ‘A Tree for Mother’ campaign, which aims to plant 5.1 million saplings in Indore. He planted a tree at Atal Van near Bijasan and emphasized the campaign’s importance in addressing climate change and global warming.
In his address, Birla underscored the urgent need for such initiatives, highlighting how they provide a fresh perspective on environmental sustainability. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘A Tree for Mother’ campaign, which is gaining significant traction in Madhya Pradesh, especially in Indore. The campaign has evolved into a mass movement, playing a pivotal role in environmental conservation. Birla linked tree planting to India’s rich cultural, moral, and spiritual heritage, stating that this initiative would have a lasting positive impact on both current and future generations, offering solutions to global and national environmental challenges.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan described the campaign as a crucial step towards saving lives and a commendable effort that must continue with vigor.
State Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stressing the importance of planting trees in sustaining human existence. He called for collective efforts to plant and protect more trees.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava providing updates on the tree plantation drive’s progress in Indore, said that the campaign has become a people’s movement with active participation from all societal sectors. The state government aims to plant 55 million trees, with 5.1 million targeted for Indore alone. He appealed for continued support to increase the city’s green cover.
The event also saw the participation of Forest and Environment Minister Nagar Singh Chauhan, Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Patel, MP Shankar Lalwani, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council member Mahendra Singh, SC Finance Development Corporation Chairman Sawan Sonkar, State Sanitation Workers Commission Chairman Pratap Karosiya, Sabha President Munnalal Yadav, MLAs Mahendra Hardia, Ramesh Mendola, Madhu Verma, and BJP City President Gaurav Ranadive, among other public representatives.
Dignitaries, along with thousands of school children, participated in tree plantation at Atal Van. During the event, Om Birla honored tree plantation brand ambassadors Vishnu Lamba and Kumari Prasiddhi, acknowledging their contributions to the cause.
