DK Shivakumar gets setback from Supreme Court, petition to quash CBI probe rejected

1 min read

New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): The Supreme Court on Monday gave a setback to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The court rejected Shivakumar’s petition, in which he had sought quashing of the case registered by the CBI in the alleged disproportionate assets case against him. It is reported that Shivakumar had objected to the case being registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and had sought the Supreme Court to end the investigation. However, his petition was rejected by the Supreme Court.

A bench of Supreme Court judges Justice Bela Trivedi and Justice SC Sharma said that they are not ready to interfere in the order of the Karnataka High Court, hence Shivakumar’s petition is dismissed.

It is worth noting that Shivakumar had earlier approached the Karnataka High Court to get the CBI case quashed. Then he did not get relief from the High Court as well. The High Court had asked the CBI to complete the investigation and submit the report within three months.

What are the allegations of CBI?
The CBI has alleged that DK Shivakumar acquired huge assets beyond his known sources of income while being a minister in the Congress government between 2013 and 2018. The CBI had registered a case in the matter on 3 September 2020. At the same time, DK Shivakumar challenged this case in 2021.
