Indore: Amidst political debates over the recent Uttar Pradesh government’s ruling mandating shopkeepers and vendors along the Kanwad Yatra routes to display their names, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Indore-2 assembly constituency, Ramesh Mendola, has written a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Mendola is requesting similar regulations in Madhya Pradesh, calling for shopkeepers’ names to be prominently displayed at every shop in the state.
In a letter shared on his X handle, Mendola emphasized that a person’s name is their identity and a source of pride. He argued that customers have the right to know the names of shopkeepers, and shopkeepers should take pride in sharing their names.
“Every small and big trader, businessman, and shopkeeper in Madhya Pradesh can feel this sense of pride in telling their names,” Mendola wrote. “Therefore, I wrote a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav requesting him to pass an order to display the name of the shopkeeper in front of every shop in the state.”
Mendola’s letter further elaborated, “The name of any person is his identity. A person is proud of his name. Every small and big person makes every possible effort to add fame to their name. Every small and big trader, businessman, and shopkeeper of Madhya Pradesh should feel this sense of pride in telling his name. The state government should make it mandatory to write the name of the shopkeeper in front of every permanent and mobile shop.”
He believes this mandate will enhance the shopkeepers’ identity in society, encourage better customer service, and foster healthy competition in the business world, ultimately accelerating the state’s development.
Expressing confidence in CM Yadav’s support, Mendola concluded, “I am sure that you (CM Yadav) will issue orders in this direction soon.”
This move follows the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent directives requiring shopkeepers and eatery owners to display their names and other details on their establishments in areas where the Kanwar Yatra is organized.
