Indore: Indore is once again stirring up something innovative! In a unique initiative, doctors, students, and lawyers will take on the role of traffic police to assist in managing the city’s vehicular flow—exclusively on weekends. This initiative is part of the ‘Traffic Mitra Campaign,’ launched by Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya at the Abhay Prashal auditorium on Monday. The campaign began with a training session led by the Municipal Corporation and District Administration, educating participants on traffic rule compliance.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, spearheading the campaign, announced that over 1,000 volunteers, including students, doctors, lawyers, social workers, and journalists, will handle traffic at various city intersections every Saturday and Sunday. The campaign will also feature 48 educational sessions in schools and colleges throughout the year, focusing on traffic improvement measures.
As part of the campaign, 24 meetings will be held annually with various organizations, such as the textile, mill, and iron associations, to discuss their roles in traffic reform.
A ‘No Helmet, No Entry’ rule will be enforced in both government and private institutions, with potential pay cuts for non-compliance. Additionally, a 10-minute awareness session on traffic improvement will be integrated into social, political, and religious events, culminating in an oath to follow traffic rules for safety.
Every three months, a felicitation ceremony will honor the ‘traffic mitras’ and participating organizations, celebrating their contributions to the campaign.
