First case of ampox infection reported outside Africa

The Swedish agency says that the infected person was infected with ampox while living in Africa.
The World Health Organization has declared a public health emergency due to the ampox disease spreading in parts of Africa.
The organization has also described this disease as a matter of international concern.
According to Olivia Wigzel, the executive head of Sweden’s public health agency, the infected person had asked that he be treated in Stockholm, so that the risk of this infection to other people can be reduced.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had expressed his concern about the possibility of the disease spreading in Africa and beyond.
Ampox is an infectious disease, which was earlier also known as monkeypox. In the African country Congo, more than 450 people have lost their lives in the initial phase of this disease.
