Kejriwal gets bail from Supreme Court
1 min readNew Delhi (Team Newsbuddy). Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has got a big relief in the liquor policy scam case. The Supreme Court granted him bail, paving the way for his release from jail. Kejriwal had approached the Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the corruption case related to the alleged liquor policy scam.
A bench headed by Justice Suryakant will pronounce its verdict shortly. Last week, a bench comprising Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan had reserved its verdict after hearing the arguments of senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on behalf of Kejriwal and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju on behalf of the CBI.
During the hearing, Singhvi had said that the CBI did not arrest Arvind Kejriwal for two years after the FIR was filed, but made a hasty “insurance arrest” to prevent his release in the money laundering case.
He had said the CBI arrested Kejriwal for “his non-cooperation and evasive replies”, but there are several Supreme Court judgements which say that cooperating in the investigation should not mean that the accused incriminates himself and confesses to the alleged offences.
