NIT Raipur hosts two-day annual photography workshop

Raipur (Team Newsbuddy): The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur’s Click Club successfully organized its “Two-Day Annual Photography Workshop” on 14th and 15th September 2024. The event aimed to impart both theoretical and practical knowledge of photography to aspiring photographers. It was inaugurated by Dr. Subhashis Sanyal, Faculty In-charge of Click Club, with enthusiastic coordination from the club members. Dr. Sanyal, during the inauguration, reflected on the journey of Click Club, from its inception in 2010 to the present, highlighting how extracurricular activities like photography can shape a student’s personality.

On the inaugural day of the workshop began with the screening of a video that showcased Click Club’s work in covering major college events such as Shruti, Garba Night, Samar, and Eclectika. This was followed by an insightful session by members of click club, who discussed the history of photography and the formation of the club. The workshop’s sponsor, Ayush Agrawal from Tulsi Enterprises, spoke about the significance of photography in today’s social media-centric world. On first day various sessions on induction, technicals about camera handling & photography, rules & composition , colour theory , editing, lighting session, and videography session was organised.

Day two of the workshop featured a special guest speaker, Dr. Dharmendra Singh Saini, an NIT Raipur alumnus specializing in astro photography and long exposure. Dr. Sanyal presented a sapling to Dr. Saini in appreciation of his participation. Dr. Saini shared his journey into professional photography, inspired by renowned wildlife photographer Sudhir Shivram, and expressed gratitude for the support he received during his time at NIT Raipur.

Dr. Saini discussed various technical aspects of photography, such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, depth of field, and motion photography. He shared insights on framing, lighting, and the importance of perspective in photography. The audience was captivated as Dr. Saini presented a stunning collection of landscape and microphotographs, sharing the fascinating stories behind them. One standout moment was the display of a star trail photograph taken in Sirpur, as Dr. Saini explained the effort that went into capturing the perfect shot. Dr. Saini concluded the session by introducing various software tools for post-processing and addressing audience queries about photography modes and techniques.

Various critical topics were covered during the workshop in two days, including the workings of DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, the exposure triangle (shutter speed, ISO, and aperture), and photography genres such as street, landscape, wildlife, and abstract photography.

The event concluded with a hands-on session, allowing participants to apply the techniques they learned throughout the workshop. At the end of the program, a photo walk was organized in which all the participants were taken to various parts of the campus and were given live information about every aspect of photography. They were given practical information about the camera and everything related to it.

The interactive nature of the workshop, combined with practical experiences, provided students with valuable insights into the world of photography.
