History is witness that our country India gave birth to many games in ancient times. Chess or Chaturanga, this game was given to the world by India during the Gupta Empire in the 6th century, today chess is played in more than 172 countries of the world. A game called Ludo, also known as Pachisi, is India’s gift in the 6th century. Mughal rulers started the modern polo game in India in the 15th century. In ancient India, around 2500 BC, the game of Gilli-Danda was invented, which is today a shadow of cricket, baseball and softball. Similarly, from the 18th century, carrom and from the ancient times, games like Malkhamb game, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Chaupar, Lagori, Snakes and Ladders, Marbles etc. were started in our country by gymnasts. After this, many types of games which were from other countries came to India and settled here. Notable among them are hockey, cricket, volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, boxing, weight lifting, wrestling, shooting, swimming, athletics etc. The most development of games in India took place in the 19th and 20th centuries during the British rule. With the increase in literacy rate in different continents and countries of the world, development in many areas of human life started taking place at an uninterrupted pace. In the world of games too, by doing new experiments every day, some endangered and some local games were promoted. But till the 20th century, no such new game emerged which could influence the people not only of India but also of other countries of this universe. But some people in our country wanted to give birth to a new game, one of them is Raju Dabhade, a great son of India living in Pune region, who in the beginning of the 21st century when the youth of our country were becoming the symbol of communication revolution through computers all over the world and were hoisting the Indian flag from one country to another, at the same time, India’s patriot Raju Dabhade was giving form to a new game called Rollball. This game of putting the ball in the goal of the opponents by defeating them while wearing skates on the feet emerged.
From 2003 to 2005, the rules of Rollball were prepared and this game made its debut in Pune, the birthplace of Mother India, by Raju Dabhade and his family members, friends, close associates, sports officials of Maharashtra, sports administrators and politicians. There is no doubt that this game is the fastest growing game of the 21st century. The whole process of moving forward with the ball with the help of skating on the playing field or snatching the ball from the advancing player and taking it in your possession is really very exciting and attractive. This is the reason why Rollball today not only has organizations in more than 27 states and union territories of India but has also become a recognized game in about 60 to 65 countries of all continents of the world. Due to the agility and speed of the game, Rollball has now become the first choice of teenagers and youth of the modern era. Now the game of Rollball is standing at the door of the International Olympic Council to participate in the Olympic Games and is making a humble request to get recognition. Recently, the 17th Sub Junior Rollball National Championship 2024 was held in Pune from 12th to 15th September. In this, 27 teams from the boys category and 20 teams from the girls category participated. In the boys category, the team of Uttar Pradesh became the winner while the team of Jharkhand was the runner-up. In the girls category, Assam defeated Rajasthan and achieved the pride of becoming the champion. Thus, the efforts to strengthen Rollball from the grassroots level are continuously succeeding. The proof of this is that the National Championship of Rollball is being held continuously in the Under-11, Under-14, Under-17 and above 17 years boys and girls category. Also, every year the senior competition is held in the women and men category. This time the 21st Senior Championship will be held in MA Stadium Jammu from 25 to 28 October. It is a matter of pride for India that the great patriot Raju Dabhade, who gave birth to Rollball, along with his companions and helpers, is constantly trying to give new direction and height to this game.
