Indore: In a bid to enhance the city’s journey towards sustainability, Indore, renowned as India’s cleanest city, is set to observe “No Car Day” with full vigor on September 22, following the call by Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava. Supported by the Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police, this initiative aims to alleviate vehicular congestion, reduce harmful air pollution, and ease mental stress among residents by promoting environmentally friendly alternatives such as clean energy and public transport.
Bhargava has urged the city people to contribute to this movement, stating, “Just as we have set a benchmark in cleanliness, let’s now strive to make Indore the top city in traffic management. Last year’s ‘No Car Day’ saw a remarkable 12% reduction in car usage, resulting in the conservation of 80,000 liters of fuel, an 18% decrease in air pollution, and a 5.5% drop in sulfur monoxide emissions.”
Emphasizing the importance of this year’s participation, Mayor appealed to the public, “Let’s build on our previous success by choosing bicycles, e-rickshaws, i-buses, My Bike, or any public transport over personal vehicles on ‘No Car Day.’ This simple step will not only help maintain our city’s cleanliness and health but also position Indore as a shining example of effective environmental improvement and traffic management, he added.
