2 min readIndore(Team Newsbuddy): The auspicious two-day Jitiya Mahavrat concluded today with an air of reverence and devotion at 5:05 PM as the fasting women of the Maithil community broke their 36-hour waterless fast (nirjala vrat) with great ceremony. Before the ‘Parana’ (the ritual of breaking the fast), the women took a holy bath and offered prayers to Jitvahan Mata, the guardian deity. As part of the rituals, offerings of cucumber, sprouts, betel leaves, fox nuts (makhana), fruits, and sweets were made to the deity, and the Prasad was finally consumed, marking the end of this significant fast.
Among the many devoted women was Sharada Jha, a resident of Tulsi Nagar, who has been performing this ritual for the past 30 years, praying for the health and long life of her children. In a beautiful display of maternal love, she connected with her son in the USA through a video call, allowing him to pay his respects to Jitvahan Mata before she concluded her rigorous 36-hour waterless fast. With folded hands, she prayed for the well-being and longevity of her son and all the children in her family, before partaking in the Prasad.
KK Jha, a noted member of the Maithil community in Indore, remarked, “Just as the Chhath festival is revered for its intensity and devotion, Jitiya is a cherished tradition among the women of Mithila, Bihar, and Jharkhand. It is an act of immense love and dedication, where mothers undertake a 36-hour waterless fast with unwavering faith, praying for the prosperity, health, and long life of their children.”This year’s Jitiya Mahavrat once again highlighted the profound bond between a mother and her child, proving that the ties of love and devotion truly transcend distances and border
