Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil visited a plastic waste management unit managed by women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park in Amlidih village, Rajnandgaon district. Both leaders commended the women for their vital role in promoting environmental sustainability through plastic waste recycling.

During the visit, Chief Minister Sai highlighted the significance of the women’s SHGs’ efforts, calling it a model initiative for environmental protection. He emphasised that recycling plastic waste not only mitigates environmental harm but also provides the women with employment opportunities, fostering self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Union Minister C.R. Patil stated that women are making key contributions in various sectors. He praised the SHGs for their dedication and hard work, and stated that their initiative to recycle plastic waste addresses serious environmental concerns, including pollution of soil, water, and air, and its impact on animal health. He praised the efforts of SHGs and stated that their work would play a crucial role in environmental conservation.

The Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park, located in Gram Panchayat Amlidih in the Dongargarh region of Rajnandgaon district, serves as a hub for plastic waste recycling. “Swachhata Didis,” women from the SHGs, collect plastic waste from the Arjuni, Konari, and Amlidih clusters, as well as nearby villages. The waste is sorted and processed into plastic blocks, granules, and PP, which are then sent to Raipur for the production of various plastic items such as chairs, drums, twine, and gutkha boxes. This initiative is a major step towards creating plastic-free villages while generating sustainable employment for the women involved.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, former MP Pradeep Gandhi, former Zila Panchayat Chairman Dinesh Gandhi, Collector Sanjay Agarwal, SP Mohit Garg, along with other officials and public representatives, were present.
