Garba should remain worship of traditional mother, no distortion in name of modernity: Lalitya Munsha
2 min readIndore. The form of Garba singing that has been going on for hundreds of years and many generations is so charming and rich that it does not need much change in the name of modernity. Our culture has so many good poems and shlokas in Indian languages that we should teach them to children in nursery rhymes and give them values.
These things were said by the famous singer Lalitya Munsha, Mumbai, in the Samvad program of State Press Club, MP. Praising the cleanliness, positivity and courtesy of Indore, she said that if this feeling comes in other areas of the country as well, then the country will progress a lot. Munsha, who is in favor of limiting Garba to the worship of the mother power, has prepared a medley of Dakla, the praise of the fierce form of the mother, Kali Maa, this year. She prefers to sing original songs of Garba songs which have been made into film versions. Her brand Red Ribbon has released albums of many singers including the recording of Arijit Singh’s first ghazal. Even today she remembers the simplicity of Arijit Singh and says that after two aanas at night he straightaway agreed and sat down and chose the final take himself.
Describing reality shows as a good platform for providing opportunities to talents, Lalitya Munsha said that now due to social media, the struggle for talents has reduced and it has become easier to showcase one’s work. Describing old Garbas as being instantly memorable and touching the heart, she is in favour of maintaining the pure form of Garba singing. She advises Garba singers to listen to singers like Vatsala Patil, Prafull Dave, Hemant Chauhan, Atul Purohit a lot. She considers singing from a stage set up among forty thousand participants in the ground near Sayaji Palace in Baroda and watching synchronized dance without touching anyone even once as a memorable experience. Lalitya Munsha, who has herself given voice to hit albums of Guru Vandana, Ganesh Shlokas etc., believes that unique compositions and shlokas in different languages of the country should be taken to the new generation. It is not right for children to remember only Johnny-Johnny Yes Papa and Baba-Baba Black Sheep in the name of poems. They should also remember Gayatri Mantra and Ganesh Vandana. Today, Indians living abroad are more aware of Sanskrit language and their culture. Today, the way of working of music companies has changed and distribution of content has become more important than manufacturing, but opening the cassette and seeing its inlay card was a different kind of fun.
State Press Club, MP President Praveen Kumar Khariwal, Sudesh Gupta, Jeetu Gupta, Kumar Lahoti and Sanjay Mehta welcomed the guests. The program was conducted by General Secretary Alok Bajpai and in the end, Santosh Rupita expressed his gratitude.
