He said that the seats of the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir have reached the majority figure of 46 seats, as 4 independent MLAs have supported the party. He said that now he is waiting for the letter of support from the Congress to stake claim to form the government.

Omar Abdullah was elected leader of the legislature party by the National Conference earlier in the day. Thanking the MLAs, Abdullah said, “You are aware of the decision taken. The NC Legislature Party met, the legislature party has decided its leader and I am deeply grateful to the NC MLAs for reposing faith in me and giving me the opportunity to stake claim to form the government.” Waiting for letter of support from Congress
Abdullah said that he is waiting for a letter of support from Congress to stake claim to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “We are in talks with Congress for their letter of support. Once we get it, we will go to the Governor as soon as possible. We have given Congress today to complete the process for the letter,”
Abdullah said about the proposal to restore statehood that once the government is formed, the proposal will be passed and then talks will be held with the Prime Minister, Home Minister and other ministers in Delhi. At the same time, Abdullah also stressed on the need for the government to establish coordination with the Lieutenant Governor (LG) for the welfare of the people.
