End NPS , give OPS to all: Protests held on Pensioner’s Day
2 min readRaipur (Team Newsbuddy): Today on 17 December, on the occasion of All India Pensioners Day, on the call of the Insurance Sector Pensioners Association, demonstrations and meetings were held in front of insurance offices across the country and the anti-people reforms in the pension sector by the Central Government were strongly opposed. In this sequence, the Raipur divisional unit of All India Insurance Pensioners Association held a meeting by protesting in front of the divisional office of LIC in Pandri. A large number of LIC and general insurance pensioners as well as serving insurance employees participated in it. The meeting was presided over by the President of the Pensioners Association, Com. Shrikant Pendharkar.
Addressing the meeting, the General Secretary of the Central Zone Insurance Employees Association, Com. Dharamraj Mohapatra strongly opposed the proposed Insurance Amendment Act 2024 and warned to intensify the agitation against it. He said that through this, the way is being cleared for the control and dominance of foreign capital over the insurance industry by increasing the FDI limit in the insurance sector from 74 to 100 percent. He demanded immediate removal of GST from insurance premiums and starting new recruitment in third and fourth category in LIC and said that insurance workers across the country are preparing to go on strike in the months of February and March on all these issues. Addressing the gathering, General Secretary of Raipur Division Insurance Employees Union Com. Surendra Sharma demanded to stop the new pension scheme and reinstate the old pension scheme. He demanded the updating of pension in the nationalized insurance industry. He said that pension is not alms or favor but the right of a hard worker and hence, by implementing the universal pension scheme, every citizen of the country should be provided a minimum pension of ten thousand rupees.
