5 cases of HMPV confirmed in India, state governments on alert

New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is spreading rapidly in China and now this virus has started spreading in India as well. So far five cases of this virus have been reported in the country. In view of this, many states have issued an alert and the health department is engaged in efforts to increase vigilance related to it.

After two cases in Bengaluru, a 2-month-old child has also been reported positive in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Also, HMPV virus has been confirmed in two children in Tamil Nadu. One of these is a case of Chennai and the other is from Salem district. The government said that the condition of both is stable and both are being monitored.

After the cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) were reported in India .P Nadda said that the government is closely monitoring the situation and there is no cause for concern. He said that HMPV is not a new virus and no unexpected increase in common respiratory viruses has been seen in the country.

HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) is a viral pathogen that causes respiratory infections in people of all age groups. This virus was first detected in 2001. It belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family and is closely related to ‘Respiratory Syncytial Virus’ (RSV). HMPV spreads through droplets released by coughing or sneezing as well as by touching contaminated surfaces or coming in direct contact with infected persons. This virus can cause minor respiratory problems to serious complications.
