Durg (Team Newsbuddy) : Senior Congress leader and former MLA Arun Vora was arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Durg railway station . The arrest was made under Section 174 of the Railway Act for obstructing railway traffic during the Rail Roko movement on 13 September 2023.
Background of Rail Roko movement
On September 13, Rail Roko movement was organized across the country on the call of the National Congress Party. Through this movement, the central government and the railway administration were accused of ignoring the basic facilities of the public and deterioration in railway services. Congress workers also demonstrated at Durg railway station and stopped the Darbhanga Express and sat on the railway track.
The protesters raised issues like lack of facilities at the station, long-term non-functioning of services like escalators and lifts, and delay in the station modernisation project proposed in 2022.
Arrest and protest
The Railway Protection Force called Arun Vora to the railway post at Durg railway station and arrested him. After the arrest, he recorded his statement at the RPF post. Calling it an attempt to suppress the voice of the public, Arun Vora said: “This arrest is a conspiracy to suppress the voice being raised for the rights of the public. I will stand for public interest issues every time.”
He was released on bail a few hours later. After his release, Congress workers protested outside the station and called it an attempt by the BJP government to suppress the voice of the opposition.
