National Rural India Festival Empowering Artisans , Promoting Heritage

New Delhi ( Team Newsbuddy): In the lush green landscape of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, Bastar Shree Silk is weaving a tale of empowerment, innovation and heritage. Founded in the year 2021 by K. Monika and supported by NABARD, this artisan group started with just 10 members and now, has grown into a thriving community of 50 skilled artisans and women.

Famous for freshwater pearl jewellery in bell metal, a craft found nowhere else in India, they also make bottle gourd (tuma) based, mushroom and ragi tea (chaha), candles, decorative items, jewellery and handlooms – each product is the essence of the rich traditions of Bastar.
With monthly incomes ranging from ₹6,000 to ₹25,000, these artisans are not only preserving their heritage but also paving the way for economic independence. Their initiative, My Pad My Right, recognised by the Prime Minister, highlights their commitment to community-driven innovation.

From the forests of Chhattisgarh to markets across India, Bastar Shree Silk represents a journey where nature, tradition and modernity seamlessly blend to build a sustainable future.

The cooperative is participating in the National Rural India Festival organised by NABARD and Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi from January 4-9, 2025.

The festival aims to enhance rural infrastructure, create a self-reliant economy and foster innovation within rural communities through various discussions, workshops and masterclasses. Its objectives include promoting economic stability and financial security among the rural population, with a special focus on Northeast India, by fostering financial inclusion and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

An important focus of the festival is to empower rural women through entrepreneurship and to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances and exhibitions.
