Grassroots to governance: MP’s tribal women leaders shine at ‘Panchayat to Parliament’
2 min readNew Delhi/Indore(Team Newsbuddy): In a significant stride towards women empowerment and grassroots leadership, a delegation of eight tribal women sarpanches from Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district recently met President Draupadi Murmu at the Parliament House. The visit was part of the transformative ‘Panchayat to Parliament’ programme, organized by the National Commission for Women in collaboration with the Lok Sabha Secretariat and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Led by Union Minister of State and Lok Sabha MP Savitri Thakur, the tribal women leaders, adorned in traditional Bagh print sarees, symbolized their vibrant cultural heritage and represented their communities on a national platform. During the event, held in the iconic Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the delegation presented President Murmu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla with thoughtful gifts, including a portrait of tribal freedom fighter Lord Birsa Munda, exquisite Bagh print sarees, and Mandu’s famous Khurasani tamarind.
Minister Savitri Thakur shared her inspiring political journey and underscored the importance of empowering women representatives at the grassroots. She emphasized that a deeper understanding of the Constitution and democratic processes would enable these leaders to contribute more effectively to the progress and welfare of their communities.
The event, attended by over 500 tribal women representatives from 22 states, celebrated the Nari Shakti Vandan law’s enactment and showcased women’s collective strength and potential in governance. Prominent attendees included National Scheduled Tribe Commission Chairman Antar Singh Arya and Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi.
The ‘Panchayat to Parliament’ initiative aims to inspire and empower women leaders to take an active role in nation-building, highlighting the transformative power of women’s leadership in shaping India’s future.
