Indore’s Maithil community to celebrate poet Vidyapati Jayanti on Republic Day

Indore (Team Newsbuddy): The Vidyapati Parishad, an organization representing the city’s Maithili-speaking community, is set to celebrate Mahakavi Vidyapati’s legacy with a grand cultural event on Republic Day. The event is scheduled for January 26 at Anand Mangal Garden, near the MR-10 Chandragupta Maurya Square.
The event will honor senior members of the Maithili community for their exemplary contributions to society. They will be felicitated with Mithila’s traditional “Mithila Paag” (ceremonial headgear) and shawls, symbolizing respect and gratitude.
The highlight of the event will be a vibrant showcase of Mithila’s rich cultural heritage. Renowned Maithili artists, including celebrated singers Madhav Rai, Rachna Jha, and Radhe Bhai, will enchant the audience with soulful Maithili folk songs that reflect the timeless traditions of Mithila.
Laxman Jha, Vijay Kumar Jha, and Suman Kumar Jha of the Vidyapati Parishad giving details of the event, said, “The event is not just a cultural festivity but a platform to foster community unity and preserve Mithila’s rich traditions.”.
“The purpose of this celebration is to reconnect the Maithili-speaking community in Indore, especially the younger generation, with the art, culture, cuisine, and language of Mithila, ensuring its continuity and growth,” they said.
During the event, meritorious students from the community will also be felicitated. Mahakavi Vidyapati, known as the “Cuckoo of Maithili Poetry,” was a renowned poet and a devotee of Lord Shiva. His contributions to Maithili and Sanskrit literature include love poems and Vaishnava devotional songs. Vidyapati’s influence transcended linguistic boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on Eastern Indian literary traditions.
Dilip Jha, an executive body member of the Vidhyapati Parishad, added that this unique cultural festivity, blending art, music, and heritage, promises to be a significant attraction in Indore on Republic Day.
