CHINA REACTION: Trump’s announcement of America’s separation from WHO

Beijing (Team Newsbuddy): China has reacted to Trump’s announcement of separation from the World Health Organization (WHO) as soon as he became the President of America. According to China’s official newspaper Global Times, China’s Finance Ministry spokesman Guo Zakun has said that the role of WHO should be strengthened, not weakened.

He said, “WHO plays a central and coordinating role in global health governance.” He said that China will continue to support WHO in fulfilling its responsibilities. He said, “China will continue to support WHO in further expanding international public health cooperation, enhancing global health governance.”

However, WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus has expressed hope that the US will reconsider this decision. He called Trump’s announcement regrettable, “We hope that the US will reconsider and we hope to continue a constructive dialogue about maintaining the partnership between the US and WHO.” US President Donald Trump says that the US has paid an unfair price for this compared to other countries. However, Trump said, “They very much want us to come back, so let’s see what happens.” This is also being considered a sign of America’s early return to the WHO.
