SECL , NIT Raipur sign MoU for ₹48.19 cr SECL girls hostel construction

Raipur (Team Newsbuddy): South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has sanctioned ₹48.19 Crores for the construction of a state-of-the-art, 500-bedded Girls Hostel at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur campus.

To formalize this collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SECL and NIT Raipur on 22nd January 2025 at the institute’s premises. The MoU was signed by Alok Kumar, General Manager (Civil/CSR), SECL, Bilaspur, on behalf of SECL, and Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur, on behalf of NIT Raipur.

This proposed SECL Girls Hostel at NIT Raipur will be a G+3 RCC framed structure (Ground + 3 floors), designed with provisions for future vertical expansion up to G+6 floors. The hostel will be constructed with high quality materials and will include a boundary wall and an overhead water tank. It will be a secure facility equipped with state-of-the-art utilities and modern amenities designed to ensure the comfort and safety of its residents. The project is expected to be completed within 36 months of the release of the first instalment by SECL. NIT Raipur will oversee the active implementation, operation, maintenance, and management of the hostel once completed.

The MoU execution ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Santosh, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Coal; Biranchi Das, Director (P), SECL; Ashishkumar D. Suryawanshi, Dy. Manager, CSR Dept., SECL; Arnab Mondal, Dy. Manager, CSR Dept., SECL; and Piyush Mishra, Dy. Manager, DP Sectt., SECL. NIT Raipur’s faculty and staff, including Dr. Manoj Pradhan, Chief Warden; Dr. G. D. Ramtekkar, Dean (P&D); Dr. L. K. Yadu, Associate Dean (P&D); Dr. P. Y. Dhekne, Registrar (I/c); and Pawan Kataria, Assistant Registrar (P&D) also registered their presence during this ceremony.

Significantly, the Foundation Stone for the SECL Girls Hostel was remotely laid on 21st January 2025 by Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India, in the presence of Ramen Deka, Governor of Chhattisgarh; Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh; Vijay Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh; Tokhan Sahu, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs; Dr. P. S. Mishra, CMD, SECL; and Dr. Suresh Haware, Chairperson, Board of Governors, NIT Raipur, along with other distinguished dignitaries.

Further, an MoU was signed between NIT Raipur and CPWD on 10th January 2025 for project management services pertaining to various upcoming projects on the NIT Raipur campus.
This initiative marks a significant step toward enhancing the institute’s infrastructure and underscores the commitment of SECL and NIT Raipur to supporting female students in higher education. The hostel will provide a safer, more comfortable living environment, promoting academic excellence and personal growth for women pursuing their studies at NIT Raipur.
