National Girl Child Day observed at Pt. Harishankar Shukla Memorial College

Raipur // To mark the occasion of National Girl Child Day, Pandit Harishankar Shukla Memorial College , Raipur host street play to bring awareness among girls regarding education and its values. It may be recalled that January 24 is observed each year to shed light on the challenges faced by girls in Indian society. The day focuses on creating awareness about the inequalities girls encounter and advocates for equal opportunities in education, healthcare and nutrition.

The street play theme revolve around as the government aims to emphasise the principles of equality and dignity for every girl child. The play highlights the importance of providing equal opportunities and respect to girls, encouraging their education and overall well-being.

Meanwhile, speaking at the ocassion, Dr Mamta Sharma, principal, Pandit Harishankar Shukla Memorial College said that National Girl Child Day is in harmony with several campaigns and programs initiated by the central government, including Beti Bachao, and Beti Padhao. It represents a united endeavour to tackle challenges such as child marriage, discrimination, and violence against girls.

The initiative recognizes distinct challenges encountered by girls, encompassing issues like gender inequality, educational constraints, school dropouts, healthcare challenges, child marriage, and gender-based violence.
She further added that annual event carries great importance as it advocates for gender equality and tackles the challenges experienced by girls in India. National Girl Child Day fosters awareness about the crucial role of empowering girls through education, health, and social support. The initiative acknowledges the potential within every girl child and champions a society in which girls can avail themselves of equal opportunities and make meaningful contributions.
The street play featured participants from NSS and SHG cell of the college.
