NCB seizes methamphetamine worth Rs 88 cr, arrests 4 smugglers

New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy) : Giving further impetus to the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign of the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has taken a major action in Imphal and Guwahati zones. Under this operation, the NCB seized a huge consignment of methamphetamine pills worth Rs 88 crore and arrested 4 smugglers associated with an international drug cartel.
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah congratulated the NCB team for this important success. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “No mercy for drug cartels. Giving impetus to the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ campaign of the Modi government, a huge consignment of methamphetamine pills worth Rs 88 crore was seized and 4 members of an international drug cartel were arrested. This success is a testimony to the ‘bottom to top’ and ‘top to bottom’ approach.”
Operation Details
Imphal Zone:
On March 13, 2025, officers of Imphal Zone intercepted a truck near Lilong area based on a tip-off. During investigation, 102.39 kg of methamphetamine tablets concealed in the tool box and cabin in the rear of the truck were recovered. Two persons travelling in the truck were immediately detained. In the follow-up action, a suspected receiver of the contraband was arrested from Lilong area. A four-wheeler was also recovered from this suspect, which was being used for drug smuggling. A total of three persons have been arrested in this case, while the search for other accused is on.
Guwahati Zone:
On the same day, officers of NCB Guwahati Zone intercepted an SUV near Silchar on Assam-Mizoram border. During the investigation, 7.48 kg of methamphetamine pills hidden inside the spare tyre of the vehicle were recovered. The person present in the vehicle was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed that the source of the contraband was Moreh in Manipur and its probable destination was Karimganj.
Taken over investigation from Mizoram government
The NCB has taken over the investigation of a case from the Excise Department of the Mizoram government in which 46 kg of crystal meth was seized at Brigade Bawngkawn, Aizawl on March 6, 2025. Four accused of the drug syndicate have been arrested in this case.
