Government employees should be ready to ensure adherence to Model Code of Conduct -Reena Baba Kangale

Chief Electoral Officer Reena Baba Saheb Kangale has instructed all the returning and assistant returning officers to complete the necessary preparations for the Lok Sabha elections soon. He said that the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with the announcement of elections and in such a situation, government officials should be prepared at every level to strictly follow it. She was addressing the review meeting of the returning, assistant returning and district election officers of the state today through video conferencing.
Kangale said that now is the time to finalize the preparations for the elections in all the districts. She stressed on preparing a checklist of all the work to be done in the first 72 hours after the implementation of MCC (Model Code of Conduct). For this, he gave instructions to complete preparations ranging from appointing nodal officers to forming various committees.
Kangale told the officials that the credibility and impartiality of the election officer is the criterion of his qualification. In such a situation, the responsibility of the administration increases further. On this occasion, he mentioned the new amendment regarding postal ballot by the Election Commission of India and said that now voters of 85 years of age or above will be provided the facility to vote through postal ballot. Earlier this facility was provided to voters of 80 years of age or older. Apart from this, as before, the facility of voting through postal ballot will continue for disabled voters.
