Discusses possibilities of nuclear power plant in Chhattisgarh

Raipur. Senior scientists of Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Trombay, Mumbai paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at his residence office and discussed in detail the possibilities of setting up a nuclear power plant in the state and the utility of nuclear energy.

Archana Sharma, Director, Beam Technology, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Trombay, Mumbai and Jyoti Diwan, Scientific Officer, BARC, informed Chief Minister Sai about the scope of nuclear energy in various fields including agriculture and electricity production.

Scientists said that establishing a nuclear power plants is a priority today to achieve the goal of zero carbon emissions. They informed that there is no unit of Atomic Energy Department in the state of Chhattisgarh, and by establishing one, the state can generate plethora of employment opportunities and expedite the pace of development. The establishment of a nuclear power plant based on high technology will also uplift the tribal dominated areas of Chhattisgarh.

Chief Minister Sai said that Chhattisgarh is rich in mineral resources as well as forest produce.
Sai showed interest in their proposal to promote the green energy sector in the state and called for appropriate efforts from the government in this direction. On this occasion, Dr. Deepak Sharma, Head of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur was also present.
