Drunkards set record during Holi, gulp down liquor worth 50 crores

According to excise officers, this year, a day before Holi and on the second day of Holi, drunkards gulped down liquor worth Rs 50 crore 18 lakh 26 thousand 30 to get rid of intoxication. During this, the excise staff conducted raids at different places and registered 134 cases and seized 880 liters of liquor.
It is worth noting that in Raipur district, the average sale of liquor on normal days is between six and a half to seven crore rupees. The sale on weekends is between seven and a half to eight crore rupees. On the occasion of the festival, especially during Holi, the sale increases two to three times. Three days before Holi in the capital, the figure of liquor sales increased by more than one and a half times. On Friday, more than 10.25 crore rupees worth of sales were made. Similarly, a day before Holika Dahan, the figure rose to 14.5 crore rupees.
Last year, on the day of Holika Dahan, liquor worth 19 crore 32 lakh rupees was sold. This year, compared to last year, liquor worth 18 crore 8 lakh rupees was sold on the day of Holika Dahan, while two days before Holika Dahan, liquor sales have increased compared to last year.
According to excise officers, the reason for less liquor sales on the day of Holika Dahan was that people had already bought and stored liquor to avoid crowds in liquor shops, due to which liquor sales on the day of Holika Dahan were less than last year. On Tuesday, the second day of Holi, liquor sales worth more than 7 crore 28 lakh rupees were recorded.
