Kejriwal to run government from jail? Petition filed in High Court

2 min read

New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy). A PIL has been filed in the High Court seeking permission for Arvind Kejriwal to run the government from jail. The petition has sought directions to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to provide adequate facilities to run the Delhi government from Tihar Jail.

Kejriwal has been in custody since March 21, when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi Excise Policy case. He was sent to judicial custody on April 1. The PIL has been filed by a person named Srikant Prasad. He has sought directions to Kejriwal to provide video conferencing facilities with members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and cabinet ministers for the functioning of the Delhi government.

Prasad said that the schemes of the Delhi government have benefited the people of Delhi and have been praised by the global media as well as many other prestigious institutions. The petitioner has sought directions to media channels to refrain from broadcasting sensational headlines and pressurising Kejriwal for his resignation and imposition of President’s Rule in Delhi.

The petition contends that the conduct of media on this particular issue as on date is highly prejudicial to the citizens and public of Delhi in whose favour the Chief Minister was appointed with an overwhelming majority of 62 seats in the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections and is interfering with the democratic process. The petition further seeks that Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva should be restrained from exerting any undue pressure by way of protests or statements through illegal means for the resignation of the present Chief Minister of Delhi.
