Professor Naima Khatoon becomes first woman VC of Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh (Team Newsbuddy): Aligarh Muslim University got its first woman vice-chancellor. Eminent psychologist Professor Naeema Khatoon has been named to the top post at the century-old premier educational institution.

A notification from the Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education said President Draupadi Murmu, being the Visitor of the university, has appointed Professor Naeema Khatoon as the vice-chancellor for a term of five years from the date of assuming charge or till she attains the age of 70 years (whichever is earlier).

It said approval has been obtained from the Election Commission that the appointment does not violate the model code of conduct provided there is no campaigning or political mileage is taken.

Professor Naeema Khatoon, who has been the principal of AMU’s Women’s College since July 2014, has served as professor and head of the Department of Psychology. Her area of ​​specialization is clinical, health, applied social and spiritual psychology.

She is also the director of the Centre for Skill Development and Career Planning, AMU since October 2015. After obtaining her PhD in Political Psychology she worked at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi and AMU, becoming Lecturer in August 1988, Associate Professor in April 1998 and Professor in July 2006.

She also taught at the National University of Rwanda for one academic year. Professor Naima Khatun has attended and presented papers in several national and international conferences and has visited many universities in Europe, North America and Asia to deliver lectures.

Having authored/co-authored/edited six books and published numerous papers in journals of national and international repute, she has supervised 15 PhD theses and a large number of dissertations.

She also has considerable experience in educational administration. She has served as Provost (twice) and Deputy Proctor in Indira Gandhi Hall and Abdullah Hall.
