Promotion of ADG Arundev Gautam Himanshu Gupta on card

2 min read

Raipur (Team Newsbuddy): The DPC (Departmental Promotion Committee) held in the ministry has cleared the way for ADG Arundev Gautam and Himanshu Gupta to become DG (Director General). The DPC has approved the promotion of these two IPS officers. Now the file has reached Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai via the Home Minister. There are indications that as soon as the Chief Minister approves, the promotion order of these two officers will be issued in the next few days. At the same time, Pawandev’s promotion has been stopped for the time being.

Four posts of DG

There are a total of four posts of DG in Chhattisgarh, out of which two are cadre posts and the state government can create two ex-cadre posts. Currently, only one post out of four is filled, on which Ashok Juneja is DG Police. The remaining three posts are vacant. Two posts had become vacant since the retirement of Rajesh Mishra. After the DPC, the process of promotion started in the ministry for three posts.

Seniority and DPC process
After the retirement of Rajesh Mishra, two IPS officers of 92 batch, Pawandev and Arundev Gautam, are at the top in seniority. After them, Himanshu Gupta of 94 batch is at the top. Therefore, DPC was held for these three. However, since departmental inquiry is going on against Pawandev, his name was discussed in the DPC but promotion could not happen. The DPC sealed the envelope containing his name, which means that if the inquiry against him ends, he can get promotion without DPC.

Retirement of DGP Ashok Juneja

DGP Ashok Juneja will retire in the first week of August. The order to make him full-time DGP was issued on August 5, 2022, whose two-year term will be completed on August 4. At that time there will be two DGs – Arun Dev Gautam and Himanshu Gupta. If the state government appoints DGP according to seniority, then Arun Gautam’s name can be finalized. But if it is decided to make Himanshu Gupta DGP, then the order of his name will be issued.

After this promotion process, significant changes can be seen in the top posts in Chhattisgarh Police. The appointment of the new DGP will be decided on the basis of the decision-making process and seniority of the government, which is likely to change the direction and functioning of the police administration.
