Raipur : The Olympic Games in Paris have concluded. In terms of India, this 2024 Olympics will be called a bittersweet memory. The countrymen were hoping that India would win medals in double digits this time. That is, we will win more than seven medals in Paris in the last Tokyo Olympics. But, estimates and predictions do not always prove to be correct. The biggest disappointment is that none of our players or athletes won a gold medal. This is no less than a misfortune. Due to this, India remained at a very low 69th position in the medal table. If we had got even one gold medal, we would have looked a little higher. There were full expectations of gold from Neeraj Chopra in javelin throw, but he too could only bring a silver medal. The gold medal of this competition went to Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan. Because of this, Pakistan got one gold medal and went above India in the medal table.
India got a total of six medals, out of which one is silver and five are bronze medals. This includes the bronze medal won by the hockey team. However, the Indian hockey team tried hard for gold in Paris. But, this hope was also shattered after losing to Germany in the semi-final match. After winning the gold medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics, India is still deprived of it. The only satisfaction is that our team finished third in two consecutive Olympics, Tokyo and Paris, and won the bronze medal. It is better to get something than to return empty-handed. There is no doubt that the entire Indian team played very good hockey. After 52 years, a strong team like Australia was defeated in the Olympics. This had raised the hope of gold in the whole country. No amount of praise for goalkeeper PR Sreejesh is enough. This player contributed to India’s victory by saving so many goals. This was his last tournament. Sreejesh, who has played four Olympics, has now retired. The pain remains that he could not bid farewell with a gold medal.
Manu Bhaker created history by winning two medals in shooting. She missed the third medal, otherwise one more medal would have been added to India’s account. Today the whole country is proud of this girl from Haryana. Bhaker not only won bronze individually in shooting, but also repeated the same success in the mixed event of 10 meter air pistol with Sarabjot. Another bronze medal in this event was won by Swapnil Kusale of Maharashtra. In this way, India got three bronze medals in shooting itself.
The unfortunate incident with female wrestler Vinesh Phogat gave a big shock to India in this Olympics. The whole country is shocked by this incident. She was disqualified before the final match due to being overweight, otherwise a medal was sure to be won. Vinesh had bravely completed the journey to the final. But, luck did not favor her. Now her case is before the Sports Tribunal. Whose decision will now come on August 13. Vinesh claims that she should be given the silver medal. The country’s renowned advocate Harish Salve has also fought the case on her behalf. It remains to be seen what the decision is. Meanwhile, Vinesh has also announced her retirement from wrestling.
