Death sentence in Bilaspur after 13 years
3 min readBilaspur(Team Newsbuddy): The tenth session judge has sentenced the youth who killed his wife and put all three children to death by hanging on the noose till death. A person has been sentenced to death after 13 years in Bilaspur district. Earlier in the year 2011, a person resident of Ratanpur was sentenced to death. The promptness of the police and the court has also come to the fore in this case, due to which the accused is going to get punishment for his act in this big and much talked about case. Within three months of the incident and the arrest of the accused, the police had presented the challan. At the same time, the judge has given his verdict only after seven months.
In the case, the court has also ordered a fine of Rs 10,000 and a sentence of three months imprisonment for not paying it. Additional Public Prosecutor Laxmikant Tiwari and Additional Public Prosecutor Abhijeet Tiwari, who advocated on behalf of the government, also played an important role in getting the accused Umendra Kewat hanged. Many more facts also came to light during the police investigation. According to this, after killing his wife and three children, Umendra also tried to commit suicide. He made a noose of rope and hanged himself, but he failed to commit suicide as the rope broke. Then he could not muster the courage to hang himself again. After this, he himself reached Masturi police station and surrendered and informed about the murder of his wife and three children.
Challan at the end of March
After killing his wife and children on the night of January 1, the accused Umendra Kewat reached Masturi police station on January 2. After receiving the information, Masturi police reached the spot and after preparing the Panchnama of the dead body, got the post-mortem done. After this, the police started investigating the case. Apart from the accused, statements of his relatives and others were recorded. Many types of evidence were collected and finally the challan was presented in the court at the end of March.
In 2011, a resident of Ratanpur was sentenced to death
In February 2011, Manoj Suryavanshi killed three children of a neighbor in Ratanpur and threw the body in the field. During the investigation of the murder, it was found that the accused Manoj’s wife Sumirat Bai had run away with the younger brother of her neighbor Shivlal Dhiwar. Due to this, Manoj Suryavanshi started having enmity with Shivlal. In February 2011, he killed Shivlal’s three children Vijay Dhiwar (eight years), Ajay Dhiwar (six years) and Sakshi Dhiwar (four years) while they were returning from Swami Vivekananda School in Darripara. However, the death sentence was converted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
Second death sentence on TI’s investigation
The then police station in-charge Ravindra Kumar Anant said that in his investigation, for the second time an accused has been sentenced to death. Earlier in the year 2022, a child was murdered in Janjgir. Based on the evidence collected during the investigation, the accused was sentenced to death.
