Indore: Eight residents of a high-rise in Indore endured a harrowing experience on Monday evening when they became trapped in a malfunctioning lift for over an hour. The incident took place at the Grand Exotic Sunshine building near Scheme No. 140, where the lift unexpectedly stalled between two floors, leaving the occupants helpless and without access to any emergency call service or alarm system.
The ordeal began around 7 p.m. when the lift came to a sudden halt. The trapped residents frantically called for help, but the absence of an emergency button or alarm made it difficult for them to communicate their distress. With no security personnel present on the premises, their cries for help went unheard for some time.
Eventually, residents from the building committee noticed the problem and rushed to the scene. A video circulating on social media shows the desperate rescue efforts, where committee members managed to partially open the lift door, creating a small window at the top. Through this narrow gap, all eight residents were safely extracted.
The incident has raised concerns about the lack of basic safety features in the building’s lift system, with residents calling for immediate improvements to prevent such situations in the future.
