Lon Varratu: 4 Maoists with reward of 20 lakhs surrender
2 min readDantewada (Team Newsbuddy). A major success has been achieved under the Lon Varratu (Come back home) campaign in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Impressed by this campaign, 4 Maoists with a reward of Rs 20 lakhs surrendered, including a Maoist couple. Rewards of lakhs were announced by the Chhattisgarh government on the surrendered Maoists.
These Maoists include members of Regional Company No. 02 and members of the political team active in the North Sub Zonal Bureau, as well as the former president of Jagargunda Area Committee. Some of these Maoists were involved in incidents like attacking the police party on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border in 2018.
Key Maoists on whom the reward was:
Hunga Tamo alias Tamosurya – Member of Regional Company No. 02, 8 lakh reward.
Aayite Tati – Member of Regional Company No. 02, 8 lakh reward.
Deve alias Vijje Vanjam – Political Team Member of North Sub Zonal Bureau, 3 lakh reward.
Madvi Aayate – Former President of KAMS (Krantikari Adivasi Mahila Sangathan), 1 lakh reward.
Impact and success of the campaign:
Under the guidance of Deputy Inspector General of Police Dantewada Range, Kamalochan Kashyap, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai, and other officers, 872 Maoists have surrendered so far, including 197 reward-carrying Maoists.
Lon Varratu Abhiyan and the rehabilitation policy of the Chhattisgarh government have played an important role in bringing the Maoists back to the mainstream. Surrendered Maoists will be provided assistance of Rs 25,000 and other facilities, along with vocational training and housing for rehabilitation.
The success of this campaign is an indication of Maoists returning to the mainstream of society, fed up with exploitation and difficult lifestyle
