According to reports, Saurabh Chandrakar has been arrested in Dubai. Investigation of Mahadev App betting scam handed over to CBI
About a month and a half ago, the Chhattisgarh government decided to hand over the investigation of the Mahadev App betting scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision was taken on August 22, following which Chandrakar was arrested. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai had made it clear that no one involved in the scam would be spared and the investigation was handed over to the CBI to ensure strict punishment to all the culprits.
Role of CBI and ED
The CBI and ED investigated the scam in depth, which exposed Chandrakar’s activities. So far, properties worth Rs 572.41 crore have been attached, including property worth Rs 100 crore in Dubai. The arrest was made in utmost secrecy, with only a few top officials knowing about it. High-level sources said the action was kept completely secret to arrest Chandrakar easily. After the arrest in Dubey, the extradition process was expedited when the Government of India and the CBI got the information. The MEA (Ministry of External Affairs), MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs), ED, and CBI worked jointly, starting the process to complete all the formalities without delay.
Contribution of Inspector General of Police Ram Gopal Garg
The contribution of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ram Gopal Garg of Durg Range was crucial in the success of this operation. Using his experience in the CBI, he kept an eye on every movement of Chandrakar and ran a unique request process through the CID. He sent an immediate request to the Home Ministry in July 2024, thereby finalizing the provisional arrest and extradition process
