These days a new tradition of earning money through sports has started. From the last two decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, the lure of money has forced players to do wrong things. Stamina has a special importance in sports. Whatever the sport, if the participant does not have the ability to remain in the field to fight against the opponent till the end of the competition or match, then it becomes difficult for him to win that match or title. Usually, from local level competition to international level match, no player wants to lose, that is why they use such medicine to increase their stamina which has been banned for players. There is a need to take action against those who consume such medicine in the sports world. Provision has been made. Recently, Australian tennis player Max Purcell, who plays in men’s doubles, was found guilty of using banned drugs in the investigation. While answering the allegations against Purcell, Purcell accepted the use of banned drugs. Purcell accepted that he has violated the rules of World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The 26-year-old player said that the amount of vitamin he consumed was more than 100 ml, which is more than the WADA guidelines. After the truth was revealed, Max Purcell’s membership was temporarily suspended. It is unfortunate that a doping case has come to light in 2024. Every player/person associated with sports should remember that the truth of any competition in sports is victory or defeat. The tournament may end with the victory of an individual or a team, but the real success is of sportsmanship. Surprisingly, three major doping cases have come to light in tennis in 2024. Two other cases are related to world number one male player Jannik Sinner and world number two female tennis player Iga Stivek. In this way, the use of banned drugs in tennis is extremely painful. The world’s first ranked male and second ranked female players getting caught in doping is proof that tennis is a sport in which more money can be earned than in any other sport. Purcell won the men’s doubles title at Wimbledon in 2022 and the US Open in 2024. This act of tennis players has deeply hurt the spirit of sportsmanship. In 2021, 82 players from India are also caught in doping cases. Investigation is going on against 17 players for taking banned drugs and 28 players from India under the age of 18 are accused of taking banned drugs. The above cases have been registered as per the Doping Rules 2021. Therefore, it is clear that the fashion of using banned drugs is going on in India too. For this reason, the role of the reward being announced for the players on winning the title in the competition is most important. In the case of players taking banned drugs, the role of their trainer and nutritionist is obviously the most important. Both of them know what is the real capacity of the player being trained by them?
In this way, the use of banned drugs in tennis is extremely disturbing.
