Sanjay Roy convicted in RG Kar Hospital case, sentence to be pronounced on Monday

Kolkata (Team Newsbuddy). The Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court on Saturday pronounced its verdict in the rape and murder case of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College-Hospital. The court convicted the main accused in the case, Sanjay Roy. The verdict was pronounced at 2:30 pm in courtroom 210. Accused Sanjay Roy claimed in court that he has been framed. The judge said that he will be given a chance to speak in court on Monday. The court will pronounce the sentence on Monday. Sanjay Roy was found guilty of rape and murder under sections 64, 66 and 103 (1) of the Indian Penal Code.

The hearing of the case started on November 11 in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the case on the court’s direction, has already filed a chargesheet. Protesters gathered outside the court premises for the hearing of the case today. Security was tightened at the Sealdah court premises. Kolkata Police also erected several barricades to control entry and ensure the safety of all those present.

Victim’s father targeted the CM

Before the court’s decision, the victim’s father targeted the Chief Minister. He said, “The Chief Minister herself had said that she was monitoring by staying awake till 2 am. I want to know what interest she had in this. Not only the main accused, all the culprits will come forward.”

Earlier, the victim doctor’s father had spoken to the media. He said, “We will get some relief when the accused are punished. Till we get justice, we will keep knocking the doors of the court. We will also seek support from the people of the country. He further said, whatever appropriate punishment will be decided by the court.”

Accusing the CBI, he said, “The CBI did nothing in this case. There is no question of satisfaction here. We raised many questions before the High Court and the Supreme Court. We have sought answers from the court. We did not seek answers from the CBI, but the court handed over all the responsibility to the CBI.
