New Delhi(Team Newsbuddy): Indian Railways will be awarded the Best Electoral Practice Award-2024-25 on National Voters’ Day. The event is scheduled to be held on 25 January at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment, New Delhi. Indian Railways has played an important role in voter awareness and logistical support in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, for which this award is being given by the Election Commission of India.

For voter awareness, Indian Railways made extensive use of its Rail Display Network (RDN) to make voters aware using its network. Information related to voter helpline was shared at stations, official websites of railways and mobile apps through this network. Pre-recorded announcements were made at the stations, giving information about the importance and process of voting. Apart from this, Sweep Express special train was run in Kashmir Valley. The aim of this train was to motivate the youth to participate in the voting process and connect them with the democratic process.

Indian Railways managed the safe and smooth transportation of the employees and officials engaged in the elections. During this period, more than 3,74,000 paramilitary forces were transported safely and on time across the country through 383 special trains. This step was extremely important for conducting the electoral process safely and seamlessly.

Social media campaign and public participation:

Indian Railways also used social media platforms in a better way to increase voter awareness. Campaigns run with hashtags like #ChunavKaParv and #DeshKaGarv encouraged citizens to understand the importance of voting and participate in the electoral process.

Indian Railways not only facilitated the voting process, but also strengthened the roots of democracy by promoting citizen participation. This award is a symbol of those extraordinary initiatives of Indian Railways, which show that railways are not just a means of transport, but an integral part of the democratic structure of the nation.
