New Delhi (Team Newsbuddy): The Government of India has received the highest ever revenue from Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April 2025. According to official data, GST collections this month reached ₹2.37 lakh crore, showing a growth of 12.6% over the previous year. This record growth has been possible due to the country’s strong economic activities, better tax compliance and data analysis based monitoring system. The government said that out of this, ₹1.90 lakh crore is shared tax revenue between the Center and the states, while the remaining amount has been received through cess and interstate GST (IGST).
According to experts, this increase will strengthen the fiscal position of the government and provide additional resources for investment in infrastructure and social schemes.
Government response:
The Finance Ministry has termed this record as “economic strength and success of tax reforms”. The ministry has also indicated that if this trend continues, relief in tax rates or more investment for new schemes may be possible in the upcoming budget.
