West Bengal: EC instructions to Trinamool Congress candidate Yusuf Pathan
1 min readKolkata, The Election Commission has told TMC candidate and former all-rounder cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Baharampur Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal that he cannot use pictures or videos of the Indian cricket team during his election campaign.
On the basis of the complaint of the Congress, the Central Election Commission has given this written instruction.
The Commission has said that wherever those pictures have been used, those banners and posters will have to be removed within a week. The Commission had earlier sought a report from the District Magistrate in this matter.
Pathan is contesting against Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Baharampur seat of Murshidabad district, who has won from here five times. Voting will be held on this seat on May 13.
Yusuf Pathan was using the pictures of the 2011 World Cup victory in posters and banners during his election campaign. Sachin Tendulkar is also seen with him in it.
The Congress had complained to the commission accusing Pathan of violating the election code of conduct.
The party argued that it is not right to use the picture of a national hero like Sachin Tendulkar for political gain.

However, at that time Yusuf had argued, “I am proud to have played for the Indian team. I don’t think it is wrong to use the picture of that glorious moment.”
Trinamool Congress or Yusuf Pathan have not yet commented on the commission’s instructions.
Meanwhile, Pathan participated in a program organized in Murshidabad on Friday.
