Saumya Chaurasia’s bail plea rejected again
2 min readRaipur (Team Newsbuddy): Bail of suspended Deputy Secretary Saumya Chaurasia, who went to jail in the much-discussed coal levy scam, has been rejected once again. The police remand of Jaiswal brothers Hemant and Chandraprakash Jaiswal, accused in this coal levy scam of more than Rs 450 crore, has also been extended. The court has handed over both of them to the Bureau on remand till July 1.
The defense, citing the letter of EOW on the previous judicial remand date in the court, said that the EOW itself did not state the need to keep the accused in judicial remand in its letter submitted. Also, there is no evidence of misuse of position anywhere in the FIR of ED and EOW. Giving the example of a youth roaming around closely with the Prime Minister in Kashmir recently, the defense said that the person who misused the position of the Prime Minister was arrested and not the Prime Minister. Apart from this, several judicial precedents of the Supreme Court and the High Court were presented and a request was made to grant bail. The EOW opposed the demand for bail. After a debate that lasted for about 1 hour in the court, the court pronounced its decision in the evening and said that bail will not be granted. The court also said that according to the case diary of the case, Saumya Chaurasia’s full involvement in this financial irregularity is visible.
It is noteworthy that, on the petition of Saumya Chaurasia, Dr. Saurabh Kumar Pandey from the Anti Corruption Bureau and Bilaspur High Court lawyers Harshvardhan Parghaniya, Faizal Rizvi from the defense side argued. This hearing on the bail petition took place in the court of First ADJ ACB / EOW.
