Raipur (Team Newsbuddy): As per the instructions of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, strict ban on gambling and betting, especially online gambling in the state and rapid and effective action will be ensured against the people involved in this matter. For this, the state government has now given the right to investigate and take action to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) and State Economic Offenses Investigation (EOW) under all sections of Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022 by publishing a duly notification.

With the ACB and EOW getting this right, rapid investigation and effective action will also be possible in cases of online gambling. It is worth mentioning here that till now ACB and EOW have been investigating only in cases related to corruption and financial irregularities. With the publication of this notification, the scope of investigation and action of ACB and EOW has increased further. It is worth noting that with the ACB and EOW getting the right to investigate and take action under the Gambling Act, these cases will be investigated in the same wing. Which will ease the investigation and speed up the action. Gambling and betting can be effectively clamped down in the state. Online gambling has been included in the Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act and a provision of 7 years imprisonment and non-bailable sections were included if found guilty in this case. Making strict provisions for action in the Act, owning a gambling house, gambling, online gambling, violation of advertising prohibition and crime by the company have been made cognizable and non-bailable offences. The term online gambling platform has been added to the definition of gambling house in the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act 2022. The words electronic records, device, mobile app, electronic transfer of funds have been added to the definition of equipment. There was no provision of punishment for online gambling in the old Act. Now a separate provision of punishment has been made. In which there is a provision of maximum 3 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to 5 lakhs. For repeated offences, there can be a maximum of 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to 10 lakhs.
